I agree Mary. It is as if the fertilized egg/ fetus/ potential child is only valued while it is in the uterus. There is some kind of disconnect between the alleged value attributed to the unborn and the value of that actual child once he or she is ready to deliver and take her or his place in the world. So we have policies and practices to “protect” the ungestated and unborn, but once they start that journey into the outside world, then the care and concern evaporates.
The information in the New York Times article is truly sobering.
